Nike Shoe Conveyor
Kinetic Retail Display Concept
A footwear display concept inspired by conveyor-belt sushi, exploring how continuous movement could shape the way shoppers encounter sneakers.
Project Type: Conceptual Retail Installation
Focus: Spatial Concept · Form Exploration · Product Presentation
Status: Design Proposal
01 — Concept & Inspiration
Conveyor-belt sushi offers a simple way to encounter a changing selection of items: the display moves, bringing each item into view.
This project adapts that principle to footwear retail. Sneakers travel around a continuous loop, turning the display into a moving focal point within the store.
Nike provides the visual context for the proposal, linking the display's movement to the brand’s association with sport and momentum.
02 — Design Goals
Use movement to introduce the product
Explore how a circulating display could bring different sneakers into view and invite shoppers to pause and look.
Keep the footwear visually prominent
Balance the conveyor, lighting, and branding so that the shoes remain the main focus.
Develop a clear spatial form
Explore an island display that can be approached from multiple sides, with a continuous track and a recognizable silhouette.
03 — Design Evolution
The concept developed through studies of material, proportion, and the relationship between the central brand element and the surrounding footwear.
Early versions used a prominent upright centerpiece. Later studies lowered the center and refined the base, opening up the view across the display.
The sequence below shows the main visual decisions behind the proposed form.
1. Initial Layout A continuous loop and an upright central brand element establish the starting arrangement.
2. Material Exploration Wood finishes take the display in a warmer, furniture-like direction.
3. Industrial Direction Darker tones and concrete-like finishes explore a more industrial visual character.
4. Lowering the Center Replacing the upright centerpiece with a low, illuminated surface opens the view across the display.
5. Proportion Refinement A tapered base and slimmer upper edge give the proposed form a lighter silhouette.
04 — Proposed Design
The proposed display combines an elongated loop, individual shoe platforms, and a tapered base. A low central surface carries an illuminated Swoosh, while an LED band wraps around the perimeter.
Lowering the central element creates a more open composition and gives the footwear greater visual prominence. The darker base provides a consistent backdrop for shoes with different colors and silhouettes.
Motion & Display
The concept proposes shoe platforms traveling in one direction around the loop, accompanied by scrolling text on the perimeter LED display.
The visuals communicate the intended appearance and movement. Prototyping would be needed to develop conveyor speed, product handling, and the relationship between the moving track and fixed enclosure.

Next Steps
This project explores how a familiar display mechanism can become the starting point for a different retail experience.
The main design development was the shift from a tall central feature to a lower, more open form. This gave the concept a clearer relationship between branding, movement, and product visibility.
The next stage would be a scale prototype to assess viewing height, circulation, conveyor movement, and how shoppers or staff could safely remove and return a shoe. These checks would help develop the visual proposal into a more resolved retail system.
