Your Exit Starts Here.
Mastercard — Independent Spec Campaign
Overview
A familiar sign. A different way out.
Your Exit Starts Here reimagines the emergency exit symbol as an invitation to step beyond routine. Mastercard’s overlapping circles become the figure’s head, while the doorway opens onto places that offer a change of pace.
The campaign brings one idea to life: a break from the everyday begins with a choice.
The Idea
We recognize an exit sign before we stop to read it. Its figure, direction, and doorway tell us where to go.
This campaign gives that familiar visual language a new destination. By pairing the exit figure with Mastercard’s symbol, it connects leaving routine behind with the experiences a payment can make possible.
The landscape changes. The invitation stays the same.
Behind the Idea
The idea began in a café. Feeling stuck in my routine, I looked up and noticed a glowing exit sign. It reminded me of a recent trip to Bali, where I had seen a Mastercard advertisement above the entrance to a massage shop.
The two images came together: an exit sign pointing the way out, and Mastercard connected to a memory of being somewhere else. What if that familiar sign could lead us beyond everyday routine?
That question became the starting point for Your Exit Starts Here.
The Visual Series
Three destinations. Three ways to feel somewhere else.
Design Approach
The design centers on a simple visual connection: Mastercard’s two circles become the head of the exit figure.
A consistent layout holds the series together, while each landscape introduces a different mood. The white figure stands clearly against the scenery, and the red and yellow circles provide a recognizable focal point.
The headline stays short so the image can carry the idea.
Bali — A Softer Start / Warm skies and lush greenery frame a slower morning. This execution speaks to the desire to ease the pace and make room for yourself.
Alpine Lake — Room to Think / Still water and mist-covered mountains offer a moment of quiet. The landscape creates a visual pause from the demands of everyday life.
Tropical Beach — Space to Be / An open horizon, clear water, and white sand suggest a day without a schedule. This execution captures the freedom to spend time on your own terms.
Campaign Applications
The campaign is imagined across outdoor placements, social media, and transit advertising.
In a city setting, the contrast does much of the work: a quiet landscape interrupts a busy street or daily commute. Social placements bring the same invitation into the everyday scroll, while transit extends the idea through movement.
Across formats, the figure, landscape, and headline remain the campaign's core.
Reflection
This project explores how a familiar symbol can take on a new meaning through a single visual change.
What began with an exit sign became a campaign about the experiences we choose to make time for.
